When a project launches perfectly from strategy to execution to final results, it feels like magic. Mostly because it’s so rare.
And anyone who’s launched a big project or product knows that if you’re waiting until you get to set to make that magic happen…well, you’ve already lost. Because it happens in the planning. In the alignment. In all the work brands don’t always think about when they “hire a photographer.”
I wanted to tell you about one of those unicorn projects where everything clicked. I think it’s a great example of why that behind-the-scenes thinking matters so much.
Let me show you what I mean.
The Challenge
Skincare line WiQo U.S. was preparing to introduce its PRX Derm Perfection line into a highly competitive market. The visuals needed to balance clinical credibility with a clean, aspirational feel. They also had to be versatile enough to serve multiple priorities: distributor needs, campaign storytelling, and digital performance.
Translation? The brand needed a visual foundation for both launch and growth.

The Strategy
We aligned right away on a unified visual language: accurate skin tone, modern luxury cues, and clear product detail. That direction shaped every decision that followed, from casting to lighting to post-production standards.
Pre-production focused heavily on technical preparation. We created lighting approaches for both skin and reflective packaging, defined a color management pipeline that would translate consistently across print and digital, and mapped every shot to a specific marketing use case. Our depth of planning meant the creative intent could stay intact no matter where the assets lived.
The Process
Production unfolded in two connected phases. First, commercial content that brought clinical benefits and real skin texture forward, captured in both stills and motion. The second phase focused on product imagery: precise, controlled lighting to eliminate glare, maintain legibility, and highlight form without sacrificing accuracy.
Plus, all setups were documented for future repeatability so we could always return if we needed to. On set, my direction focused on micro-expressions and intentional movement, finding that balance of authenticity and refinement. We really wanted to highlight a natural, authentic look, so my retouching preserved realism rather than smoothing it away.

The Results
WiQo wanted to stock its asset library with visual content they could use now, but that would also stand the test of time for long-term utility. Hero visuals anchored campaign storytelling, while motion clips supported paid media and education. And clean, modern product images were meant to drive clarity and conversion across retail and e-commerce.
The most rewarding part? Seeing these visuals hold their integrity as they move through different channels and uses. That’s the benefit of building strategy into the process right off the hop.

Work with a Creative Partner
When brands think about hiring a photographer, the focus often lands on the images delivered at the end of a shoot. That’s the part you can post, package, and promote.
What’s less visible is everything that happens before and after that. That’s what a creative partner brings to the table.
For WiQo’s PRX Derm Perfection launch, that behind-the-scenes work looked like:
• Creative direction from day one including interpreting brand positioning into a visual identity
• Mood boards to align on tone, lighting styles, and narrative cues
• Full pre-production planning across schedule, staffing, equipment, and workflow
• Model casting and coordination to reflect real consumer diversity and representation
• Storyboarding for consistency and coverage so every shot had a purpose
• On-set creative leadership directing expression, movement, and brand storytelling
• Commercial photography and motion capture for dynamic campaign assets
• Precision product photography optimized for catalogs, e-commerce, and advertising
• Hair and makeup supervision to match the brand’s clinical-meets-luxury aesthetic
• Post-production oversight including retouch direction, color continuity, and delivery standards
• Asset organization and governance so images were launch-ready and easy to deploy
• Documentation for future scalability so visual continuity remains intact as the line expands
If you’re working on something new and want someone in the room who thinks just as deeply about the “why” as the “what,” I’d love to talk through how we can build it together.
I’m accepting new projects now, so please feel free to contact me today to get the conversation started for your next campaign.
